Friday August 16, 2019 - Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga’s push for Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) has been dealt a big blow after a top lawyer endorsed Punguza Mzigo
Punguza Mzigo is an initiative spearheaded by Third Way Alliance party leader, Dr Ekuru Aukot.
According to Dr Aukot, the initiative seeks to reduce the number of MPs from the current 416 to 147 saying its main aim is to reduce the high wage bill.
It also seeks to abolish the position of Deputy Governor
Though the initiative has been opposed by both President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, top city lawyer Nelson Havi says Kenyans need a lighter Government, and consequently, a lower cost of running it.
Havi, who tweeted from Mombasa on Friday during the annual Law Society of Kenya (LKS) conference, said that there is need for Kenyans to have a lean Government that will be easy to run.
“An Audit of the Constitution: The Quest for Constitutional Reform and Transformation. Insightful and informative intellectual discourse here at #LSKAnnualConference2019 in @PrideinnHotels. There is need to reduce the size and cost of government," he tweeted.
