Saturday, August 03, 2019- Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino, has become the latest politician to call for the legalization of Marijuana in Kenya.
The controversial youthful MP was recently tasked by Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, to carry on the work started by late Kibra MP, Ken Okoth, who had tabled a bill in parliament aimed at decriminalization of medical marijuana in the country.
In the draft Bill, Okoth was seeking to have a regulation for the growth and safe use of the stimulant, including the registration of growers, producers, manufacturers and users.
Mr. Okoth also believed that legalising bhang would boost the economy and provide jobs.
“Progressive taxation measures for the marijuana industry to boost economic independence of Kenya and promote job creation along the full spectrum of the value addition chain for marijuana and hemp,” part of his draft bill read.
Well, it seems Hon. Babu Owino has taken up Sonko’s challenge and started his campaign for the legalization of the herb.
Taking to Instagram, Babu wrote: “Apart from weed being used for medicinal purposes,it also helps in kunyanduana. you know you know”
