Wednesday, August 07, 2019 - Flamboyant city billionaire, Chris Kirubi, has been flown to the US for specialized treatment.
This is the second time Kirubi, who is the owner of Capital FM, is being flown to the US for treatment.
The business mogul spent the better part of 2018 in a hospital in Boston in the US undergoing treatment for cancer.
His illness was first reported to staff at Centum Investments, a publicly listed firm for which he serves as chairman and is a majority shareholder.
Centum CEO, James Mworia, in a memo sent to staff in November 2017 revealed that Kirubi had travelled to the US for specialized treatment but did not disclose what was ailing the business mogul.
“Instead, Dr Kirubi, whom I spent time with on Monday and saw off at the airport, and have spoken to on multiple occasions since, remains in good spirits and actively engaged on business matters in his usual endearing fashion,” Mr Mworia.
The treatment took a toll on his body and when he made his first public appearance in mid 2018, he had lost a lot of weight but was high in spirits.
Over time, he made significant recovery and it was thought that he had successfully won the battle against cancer.
However, his condition has deteriorated over the past few months and on Saturday, he was flown to the expensive hospital he has been receiving treatment in the US.
Kirubi is one of the richest Kenyan businessmen with various investments among them Two Rivers Mall (via Centum), Haco Industries and Capital Group Limited that owns Capital FM.
We wish him quick recovery.
