Thursday August 22, 2019 - Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have finally arrested Keroche CEO, Tabitha Karanja, and her husband, Joseph Karanja, over tax evasion worth Sh 14.5 billion.

The two were arrested following an order from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Nordin Haji.

Haji said that he has evidence that the two billionaires were yet to pay tax amounting to Sh14.5 billion.

Tabitha had earlier on said that they will not surrender to the detectives.

She noted that the arrest warrant is not only ill-timed but also ill-driven.

"Am shocked by the new allegations leveled against me, my husband and Keroche Breweries and this is pure malice," she said.

The billionaire faulted her competitors for her woes and promised to fight back after the accusations.

"This is a vendetta war launched by my competitors and am ready to face the taxman and the DPP to prove my innocence," she said.

Tabitha and Joseph will be arraigned in court on Friday and they might be detained until Monday according to sources from the DPP’s office.
