Tuesday, July 23, 2019- Two people escaped death narrowly on Tuesday when a lorry they were travelling in lost control and plunged into the Indian at the Likoni ferry channel.

The Lorry belonging to Mombasa Maize Millers was transporting wheat and maize flour to Kwale County when it plunged into the ocean.

According to witnesses, the lorry had just disembarked from the ferry on the Kwale end and was being driven up the ramp, when its braking systems failed.

Consequently, the lorry reversed into the ocean but its occupants-a driver and turn boy escaped unhurt.

The goods valued at around Sh600, 000 were destroyed in the incident.

“We were to supply the goods to our clients, but the saline water has completely destroyed the flour. This is a total loss,” Ali, the turnboy, said.

The accident halted normal operations at the busy channel as it took over five hours to pull the vehicle out of the water.
