Thursday July 4, 2019 - Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) sought time on Thursday to detain digital strategist, Dennis Itumbi, for 14 days to allow time for investigations.

According to the prosecution, the matter being investigated touches on the security of the State hence releasing him will be taken as a joke.

In a sworn affidavit from the Special Crimes Unit (SCU), the police alleged that Itumbi had refused to cooperate with the investigators.

“There are compelling reasons to warrant extended detention of the suspect.”

“He is uncooperative and has declined to record a statement over the matter," read part of the affidavit.

Itumbi was arrested on Wednesday near City Hall and was being held on charges of allegedly making false documents without authority.

Sleuths were investigating into Deputy President William Ruto's alleged assassination plot and had narrowed down on Dennis Itumbi and Ruto’s Director of Communications, Emmanuel Talam.

The two are said to have authored the letter that has caused tension within Government and major division in the Cabinet.
