Tuesday July 23, 2019-Embattled Treasury Cabinet Secretary, Henry Rotich, knew his arrest was on the offing after Deputy President William Ruto refused to pick his calls early last week, a source at the treasury has confirmed.
According to the source, President Uhuru Kenyatta notified Ruto of Rotich impending arrest over Sh 19.5 billion Arror and Kimwarer dams’ scandal.
Instead of playing cool, Ruto started ignoring Rotich calls and the CS knew something was not right.
“He must have been aware that something bad was coming up because he told us that his seniors had stopped responding to his text messages after the saga of the dams broke out," said the treasury official who requested anonymity.
Before the dams’ scandal broke out, the source said, messages from the CS to Ruto were answered without delay
Ruto is a close confidante of Rotich.
