Wednesday July 17, 2019- A vocal politician has hinted at forming a formidable alliance with National Super Alliance (NASA) leader, Raila Odinga, in 2022 in order to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta who is set to retire after serving for two five year terms.
Speaking after meeting Raila Odinga at his Capitol Hill offices in Nairobi on Wednesday, Machakos Governor, Dr Alfred Mutua, said he may form an alliance with the former Premier to succeed the Son of Jomo.
Mutua, who is the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader, also disclosed that he sought Raila's guidance on how to popularise his candidature and work on a possible political merger.
He further said he agreed with Raila Odinga that the country needed a transformative leader who would restore sanity by taming corruption and uniting all the tribes.
“We discussed several scenarios and agreed that political generational change is critical in any society and I told him I am capable of running the affairs of this country," he said
Mutua further stated that they agreed Kenya needed an expanded Executive and would advocate for such a system of governance to ensure all citizens were well represented in government.
“Ideally, we agreed that "winner takes it all" electoral system is responsible for many problems in our country and should be changed," he said.
