Saturday July 20, 2019-A section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MPs have dismissed the referendum push by Thirdway Alliance party leader Dr Ekuru Aukot.

On Thursday, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced that it has already verified over 1.2 million signatures of registered voters collected by Aukot in his bid to amend the constitution.

However according to  Alego Usonga MP, Samuel Atandi , Aukot''s initiative campaign dubbed “Punguza Mzigo” will never see the light of the day since the person pushing it (Aukot) was "totally unrecognized outside Twitter" as he has no influence on the ground despite vying for the presidency in the 2017 general election.

Renaming Punguza Ukame Bill', the legislator said the proposal, which seeks, among other things, to reduce the number of MPs from 416 to 147, was doomed to fail despite allegedly being sponsored by Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

“Punguza Ukame Bill contains ridiculous proposals. Aukot and his NGO sponsors have made a fake assumption that a Presidential candidate who received miserable votes from Kenyans, with no MCA, assistant chief, MP can change the constitution. Totally unrecognized outside Twitter," Atandi wrote on Twitter on Saturday.
