Thursday July 25, 2019 - Majority of MCAs from Nakuru County have said they are ready to endorse the Punguza Mzigo bill if it is tabled in the floor of the house.

Speaking on Wednesday, the MCAs, majority elected on the Jubilee Party ticket, promised to popularise the bill at the grassroots during public participation sittings in the 55 wards.

The MCAs spoke when the Thirdway Alliance party leader, Dr Ekuru Aukot, addressed the House and members of the public.

The ward reps said they were ready to support the bill that seeks to reduce the number of MPs and take development funds to the wards among other changes in the Constitution.

On his part, Aukot urged the MCAs to discuss the bill soberly and not to allow politicians to hijack it.

He also took issue with National Assembly Majority Leader, Aden Duale, for opposing the Bill.

Aukot’s bill seeks to cut the cost of running Parliament by reducing the number of MPs from 416 to 147, use the 47 Counties as a single constituency unit for purposes of parliamentary elections, elect one man and one woman from each of the 47 Counties to the National Assembly and abolish the position of Deputy Governor.
