Tuesday July 23, 2019-Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has dismissed graft allegations against Treasury CS Henry Rotich and Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge, saying the charges lack substance to sustain a case.
Rotich and Thugge were among other senior government officials who were arrested on Monday over his involvement in the Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal in which taxpayers lost over KSh 19 billion.
Speaking during an interview on Tuesday, Cheruiyot noted the accusations against the suspects were drawn from common charges that have been used in other graft cases.
"These are generic charges and they are generic because in every corruption case that have been taken to court, the accused are charged with the very same charges as we have seen here," he said.
The senator poked holes into the charges raising questions on how Treasury Ministry appropriated the money without prior planning as indicated by the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji.
"There are critical questions which unless DPP Noordin Haji comes clear about, then in my mind I cannot change the position that either he is a fraudster or completely daft to be able to sell us this kind of a lie," he further claimed.
