Friday July 5, 2019 - The Gikuyu, Embu, Meru Association (GEMA) has said that nothing has changed in Mt. Kenya region as far as political leadership is concerned.
In an advert on the Daily Nation on Thursday, GEMA, through its chair, Lawi Imathiu, insisted that President Uhuru Kenyatta remains the region's ultimate decision maker.
Imathiu said that the association will uphold the Limuru Declaration of March 2012 where Uhuru was named the undisputed leader of the Mt. Kenya community.
He added that Uhuru has also demonstrated his leadership capabilities throughout the time he has been in power, proof that he is the right person for the post and the Presidency.
"In the last seven years, His Excellency Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta has led the country to tremendous development with tenacity and with wisdom that is unparalleled,” read the advert.
Imathiu also praised Uhuru for his truce with ODM boss, Raila Odinga, last year, noting that it has calmed the nation, further urging politicians to heed his anti-politics calls.
He further added that Gema would like to see all Kenyans rally behind Uhuru in his anti-corruption campaign.
"We, therefore, urge all leaders, all arms of Government (Executive, Legislature and Judiciary) to assist H.E the President to fight corruption, which is threatening to destroy our society,” he added.
As of now, the region appears divided between the pro-Uhuru Kieleweke group and the rival Tangatanga faction which seems to be largely in support of his Deputy, William Ruto.
