Sunday, July 21, 2019- While Female Genital mutilation is illegal in Kenya, some communities have refused to let go the archaic practice.

A case in point is the Pokot, where the bride must undergo the cut as a rite of passage to adulthood.

Even this American missionary couple, who have been living among the Pokots for more than a decade, had to adhere to the outdated cultural practice.

The lady known as Trizah was christened Cheigar after she underwent the cut.

“I am proud to be here and be a part of this. It’s a blessing for me to be able to do this and be accepted by these people” Trizah’s husband Tony said during an interview with K24.
