Starehe MP CHARLES JAGUAR denied bail, to spend the weekend in police cell over his xenophobic remarks.

Friday, June 28, 2019- Starehe MP, Charles Njangua alias Jaguar, will spend the weekend in police cells after the court refused to grant him bail.

Senior Resident Magistrate, Sinkyani Tobiko, allowed police to detain the singer turned politician until Wednesday next week, at the Kileleshwa Police Station to enable them to complete investigations on remarks against foreign traders.

The Prosecution had asked for two weeks, a request the Magistrate described as ‘unrealistic.’

The first time MP was arrested on Tuesday outside parliament after a video went viral on social media, in which he was heard inciting the locals against foreign traders operating in Gikomba and other markets in the area.

However, Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna denounced the MP’s remarks saying they do not represent the government’s official position.

“We wish to state that this is not the position of the government and we denounce the comments carried in the video in the strongest terms possible. Such comments are unfortunate and have no place in today’s ‘global environment,” said Oguna as he reassured foreign investors in the country of their security.
