Sunday June 23, 2019-Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday carried out another successful raid on a region considered an Opposition backyard in a bid to market himself ahead of 2022.

This is even as President warned him and his Tangatanga team to cease from endless politicking and work for the people.

The DP toured Trans Nzoia County where area county boss Patrick Khaemba promised him full support in his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022 polls.

Khaemba said that the community has wholly resolved to rally behind him, in a bid to secure a slot in his Government after the much-awaited elections.

“We have resolved to chart our own political destiny. We will support the DP so as to be part of the next government,” Khaemba said.

Khaemba also lashed out at persons allegedly attempting to gag politicians against engaging in politics, an indirect shot at Uhuru who has been uncomfortable with the 2022 issue.

The region, which is predominantly inhabited by members of the Luhya and Kalenjin communities, largely sided with the Opposition's National Super Alliance (NASA) side in the 2017 presidential elections.

Leaders who accompanied the DP who also visited Bungoma county included Didmus Barasa (Kimilili), Frederick Kapondi (Mt Elgon), Kimani Ichungwa (Kikuyu) and Robert Pukose (Endebess).
