Tuesday June 25, 2019 - A section of Mt Kenya leaders have poured cold water on claims by Deputy President William Ruto that some Cabinet Secretaries want him dead.
On Sunday, Ruto called the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and reported that CSs Peter Munya (Trade), James Macharia (Transport), Sicily Kariuki (Health) and Joe Mucheru (ICT), were planning to assassinate him.
But addressing journalists at Parliament Building on Monday, Mt Kenya leaders led by Nyeri Town MP, Ngunjiri Wambugu, criticised Ruto claiming that the allegations were part of a wider scheme to distract Central Kenya leaders from their work.
“We are convinced that those behind these allegations are trying to stop the Mt Kenya Cabinet Secretaries from assisting the region’s MPs to push for development of the region.”
“We also see this as meant to intimidate these Cabinet Secretaries from executing decisions made by the President towards developing our region,” Ngunjiri said.
Ngunjiri’s sentiments were echoed by Kiambu Women Representative, Gathoni Wamuchomba, who termed Ruto’s claims as mere nonsense.
