Monday June 17, 2019 - Deputy President William Ruto will defeat Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Amolo Odinga, if elections were conducted today.
This is according to a survey conducted by ISS-Africa.
According to the survey, which sampled 1,700 people from different parts of the country, Ruto emerged as the most preferred Presidential candidate at 30.81% followed by Raila, who doubles up as the African Union Special Envoy, at 27.50%.
The poll also ranked Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko third at 12.8% and Amani leader Musalia Mudavadi fourth with 9.3%.
On the other hand, Wiper Party Leader, Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, who has also expressed his interest in the post, was ranked at fifth positions at 8.5%
According to the poll that was released by Insights Strategists Solutions Head of Research, Peter Macharia, both Raila and Ruto, who have vowed to remain faithful to President Uhuru Kenyatta, are still strong in their backyards.
“Raila Odinga and William Ruto are still holding their blocks tight with 66% and 65% in Nyanza and Rift Valley respectively,” read part of the survey
The report also revealed that Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiangi, is the most preferred presidential running mate after he garnered 22.4% of the votes while Makueni Governor, Kivutha Kibwana, who parted ways with Kalonzo, came second in the running mate contest at 18.3%.
Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, who lost his seat to the incumbent Ferdinard Waititu, and Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria scooped the fourth and fifth position with 15.5% and 9.6% respectively.
