Wednesday June 19, 2019 - Self-proclaimed National Resistance Movement (NRM) general, Miguna Miguna, has come out to defend blogger Robert Alai following his arrest on Tuesday.
Alai, who is a global social medial crusader, was arrested by the Kenyan Government for allegedly posting photos of police officers who were killed by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Wajir County last Friday.
Now Miguna says the blogger is innocent.
The activist-cum-politician said that Alai is only a victim of circumstances.
“Alai has not committed any crime known to law. He is not a terrorist. There is absolutely no credible evidence that he colluded with the Al-Shabab in publishing pictures of Kenyans killed in combat. What Alai does may offend some people. But it is not a criminal offence," Miguna wrote on his Twitter account.
The Osgoode trained lawyer also said that he doesn’t get along well with the blogger but he is ready to defend him.
He said that Alai is like any other Kenyan and he deserves better treatment.
"Mr. @RobertAlai and I don't get along despite both of us hailing from Nyando Constituency and sharing an alma mater - Onjiko Secondary School. However, I will defend to death his UNFETTERED rights to free thought, conscience and expression. #ReleaseRobertAlai #DespotsMustFall," he wrote.
