Friday, June 21, 2019 - Two truck drivers have been arrested after they were busted trafficking human beings stashed in cardboard boxes into Uganda.

The trucks were flagged down while crossing into Uganda through the Busia border.

The drivers of the two trucks were arrested and driven to Kampala for interrogation.

“We intercepted them at 4am this morning at Busia border post using our Non-Intrusive inspection Technology (drive through scanners),” A Ugandan customs officer said.

“The two people have been arrested by Customs Enforcement intelligence and are being held in Kampala for interrogation and we shall work with other agencies to understand the motives,” The officer added.

The nationalities of the men being trafficked have not yet been revealed.

Uganda remains a source and destination country for men, women, and children trafficked for the purposes of forced labour and sexual exploitation.
