Monday, June 17, 2019 - A woman has been placed in isolation in Kericho Referral Hospital after exhibiting symptoms of Ebola.

The woman had traveled from Malaba at the Kenya-Uganda border where she went to visit her spouse.

Kenya has been on high alert after two people died of Ebola in neighboring Uganda.

The Ebola outbreak which has ravaged the neighbouring DRC for the last one year was confirmed in Uganda on Tuesday in the western border district of Kasese.

The patient’s blood samples have been sent to the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) for further analysis and the results are expected to be out within hours.

"The County Department of Health Services is monitoring this potential case very closely and is working with the National Government to ensure that all essential procedures are followed to protect public health and safety," a statement from Kericho County read.

On the same breath, the Governor's office has assured Kenyans that the hospital is well equipped to ensure the proper isolation of the patient and the protection of other hospital users and called on residents to be calm.
