Here is where you can clean your dirty money without being asked a question, CBK and DCI officers have already been compromised - Who cursed Kenya?

Friday June 7, 2019 - Central Bank of Kenya's announcement that it is phasing out the old Sh 1,000 note from October 1, 2019 has opened another underground market where rogue forex bureaus are being used to clean dirty money.

A forex trader in Eastleigh said unregulated money exchange bureaus in the area can exchange hundreds of thousands of shillings for US dollars without being questioned about the source of the cash.

“You can go there, exchange your shillings into dollars and take the dollars back to your mattress,” said the trader.

He also said many Government officials have been trooping there for the last two days.

Another trader said many thieves of public money are beating up the system by exchanging their dirty money in bureaus in Uganda and South Sudan.

“In countries like South Sudan, most forex bureaus are basically black market.”

“There is also Somalia, the Busia border and Burundi where you can easily turn the shilling into dollars and come back home,” said the trader.

Central Bank and Kenya Bankers Association have already warned Kenyans, banks, agents and retailers to be vigilant during this transition period.
