Monday June 17, 2019 - President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Government has confirmed that the female patient at the Kericho Referral Hospital did not test positive to Ebola-related symptoms or illness.
Addressing journalists on Monday, Health Cabinet Secretary, Sicily Kariuki, urged Kenyans to remain vigilant amid reports of Ebola in neighbouring Uganda.
"The Rapid Surveillance and Response Team has examined the patient at Kericho who had travelled from Malaba town on the Kenya-Uganda Border who is in stable condition and confirms that she DOES NOT meet the case definition for Ebola," Kariuki said.
The CS further said that precautionary measures have been put in place including isolation of the patient and submission of blood samples to the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) for testing.
“The patient does not meet the case definition of Ebola, however, precautionary measures have been put in place including isolation of the patient," Kariuki said.
"Allow me to confirm to Kenyans that the patient does not meet the case definition of ebola," Kariuki added.
The CS concluded by saying that a full blood report of the patient will be announced on Monday evening
