Friday June 28, 2019-Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) yesterday raided an exclusive cyber office in Karen in pursuit of suspects who are believed to have authored a letter that has formed the basis of assassination claims against Deputy President William Ruto.
The sleuths are in pursuit of two suspects who are alleged to have forged the letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta with the intention of raising a false alarm.
The DCI has highlighted a number of discrepancies in the letter that had led security officers to suspect forgery.
Firstly, the letter was addressed to President Uhuru Kenyatta, while the norm is that Cabinet Secretaries reach the head of state through Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.
Secondly, Government letters distributed among senior Government officials are not written on white papers and instead use either blue or yellow conqueror paper.
Thirdly, the address to the recipient as “sir” is against protocol as the President is usually addressed as “Your Excellency”.
Lastly, a genuine letter to the President would not have had more text after signing off unless to indicate who it was copied to.
