Woman who killed a UoN Law student who was having SEX with her husband handed life sentence (DETAILS)

Thursday, May 30, 2019 - A middle aged woman has been handed a life sentence for killing her husband’s Mpango wa Kando.

The accused, a 36-year old mother of two identified as Cecilia, killed Susan Wanjiku Kihiu in June 2013 after she suspected her of having an affair with her husband.

Susan was pursuing a Law Degree at the University of Nairobi having scored a straight A in her KCSE.

While delivering the verdict, Justice Richard Mwongo emphasized that while the murder was a crime of passion, the accused was not remorseful and put forth a “defence that was found to be flimsy and fictitious.”

“After the murder, the body was thrown in a field not far from the deceased’s home,” said Justice Mwongo.

“In my view, a non-custodial sentence will pass the wrong message to many thousands women and men stuck in situations where their spouses are in romantic affairs with girlfriends and boyfriends, commonly known as mpango wa kando,” stated the judge.

The Judge further noted that a non custodial sentence “may even trigger the idea that murder is fashionable and rewarding, and an appropriate cure for mpango wa kando.

The judge added that the life sentence effective from April 1st “shall be subjected to review after 20-years upon the accused’s demonstration of good conduct.”

She was given 14 days to appeal.
