Tuesday, May 14, 2019- Police in Kisii have arrested a middle aged woman believed to be Violet Kemunto, the wife of Ali Gichunge, an Al Shabaab terrorist behind the Riverside attack in January.

Officers from Nyangusu Police Station, acting on a tip-off from members of the public arrested the suspect believed to be an Al Shabaab bride on Monday evening.

She was in the company of a Tanzanian man who did not have proper immigration documents.

Violet Kemunto alias Khadija has been on the run since the DusitD2 attack with intelligence sources indicating that she may have crossed over to Somalia after the attack that claimed over 20 lives.

However, Kisii County Commander Martin Kibet said that they were not certain of the woman's identity given that her documentation did not match that of the fugitive they have been pursuing.

The suspect’s documents indicate that she came to Kenya from Saudi Arabia in March.
"For now we are not sure whether the female suspect in custody is the alleged Kemunto. We will leave that to the relevant police officers probing the case," he stated.

On his part, DCI lead investigator in Kisii county, James Kipsoi, said:

"She really doesn’t look like the Kemunto the police are looking for. Our officers will go to the ground and talk to the area chief and find out where she schooled before we take any further action.

"The search for Kemunto is a matter of national concern and we will not take any chance in digging out the truth,"
