SHOCK as Kenya Navy officer shoots colleague dead before turning gun on himself in Mombasa(DETAILS)

Monday, May 13, 2019- A Kenya Navy officer has shot dead his colleague and later turned the gun on himself adding to rising cases of fatal shooting by uniformed officers.

The officer, who has been identified as Gilbert Kibet, snatched a G3 riffle from his victim identified as Naftali Kimtai, and shot him three times, killing him on the spot, then turned the gun on himself.

The incident happened at Kenya Navy Mtongwe Base, Likoni on Sunday morning.

The victim was rushed to the Kenya Navy sick bay, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The bodies were moved to the Coast General Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examinations.

Last month, Likoni Police Station deputy OCS shot dead a woman at a bar before killing himself using his pistol.

In another incident, a KDF officer killed himself after shooting three of his close relatives to death in Eldoret.

These fatal shootings among uniformed officers has raised concerns on whether the service has a functional psychiatry department offering counseling services where officers can feel free to seek help.
