Friday May 10, 2019 - Nominated MP, Maina Kamanda, has welcomed the cancellation of Saturday’s prayer rally in Murang’a town where Deputy President William Ruto was supposed to be the Chief Guest.
On Wednesday, State House cancelled the rally arguing that the function will antagonise the region which is President Uhuru Kenyatta’s stronghold.
Ruto and over 130 MPs were set to attend the mega prayer rally in Ihura Stadium but the House on the Hill cancelled it.
Politicians who are opposed to Ruto’s presidency in 2022 led by Maina Kamanda have welcomed the move saying the rally was not a prayer rally but a political rally.
Kamanda said that the rally was an attempt by Ruto and allies to spread his political gospel to Central Kenya region ahead of his 2022 presidential bid.
However, according to Kimilili MP, Didmus Barasa, a close ally of the DP, not a single politician was going to speak.
He said that politicians would have only attended the function to show solidarity with the DP.
“None of the leaders was going to talk.”
“It was purely a prayer event.”
“Nevertheless, it was a show of solidarity with the DP and could have been used to know those fully supporting his push for Jubilee agenda or not,” Barasa said.
