See how a brave KQ pilot avoided a fatal plane crash from Nairobi to Mombasa after taking off from JKIA - All the 87 passengers would have perished!!

Friday May 10, 2019 - Passengers travelling aboard a Kenya Airways plane on Friday morning escaped death by a whisker after their aircraft flew into a flock of birds.

According to a statement released by Kenya Airways, the plane was heading to Mombasa from Nairobi and was carrying 87 passengers.

However, after taking off from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), the plane encountered a “bird strike”

A bird strike is a collision between an aircraft and a bird.

It is considered a significant threat to flight safety.

This was two minutes after take-off and as a standard precautionary measure, the pilot decided to turn back, landing safely after 15 minutes.

"We are glad to report that all the 87 passengers and five crew on board are safe," the airline said.

The passengers were redistributed to KQ 608 and 616.

KQ, as it is known internationally, has apologised to the affected passengers adding that engineers are currently assessing the damage on the affected left engine of the Embraer E190.
