Thursday May 16, 2019-Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has worsened unemployment rate in the city after he shut down over 25 factories that were found to be in violation of the law by dumping waste into the Nairobi River.

Sonko was accompanied by several other government agencies including NEMA during the exercise.

Giloil was one such company that is based in industrial that was closed after they were found to be redirecting untreated water back into the Nairobi River.

Speaking after shutting down the factories, Sonko, who has been on a mission to restore the image of the Nairobi River, stated that he will not back down in the fight for a cleaner and healthier city.

The county, under its beautification program, has undertaken the effort of cleaning up the river in a bid to return it to its former glory.

In the process, NEMA officials were full of praise for the governor's efforts in tidying up the city and ensuring the factories within the county adhere to the set regulations.
