Wednesday May 15, 2019-Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich has moved to appease President Uhuru Kenyatta after he allocated him a whopping Sh500 million every month.
President Uhuru Kenyatta's office will be spending Ksh500 million every month thanks to a new allocation from the Treasury.
In the new Budget proposal, The Presidency got a 26 per cent increase to a lump sum of Ksh11.2 Billion for the 2019/2020 financial year.
The move was widely seen as an end to austerity measures that the president had introduced roughly five years ago.
The budget increased by Ksh2.3 Billion and is set to take effect beginning this July.
Broken down, half of the increase was taken towards the purchase of goods and services aimed at entertaining, hosting dignitaries and the general running of the day-to-day of the Presidency.
The goods budget alone at Uhuru's office was increased to Ksh6 Billion from Ksh4.9 Billion last year. That means that the Presidency will spend Ksh16.4 million every day.
Employees of The Presidency will also benefit from the rise after the employee-compensation budget rose from Ksh2.3 billion to Ksh2.5 billion.
