Thursday, May 02, 2019- Kenyan celebrities with lucrative endorsement deals from betting firms have been dealt a big blow after the government announced tough regulations to reign in on the betting craze in the country.

According to the new regulations set by the Betting Licensing and Control Board, local celebrities have been banned from appearing in betting adverts.

The board also banned outdoor advertising of gambling, advertising of gambling on all social media platforms and advertising of gambling activities on television and radio between 6am and 10pm.

 All betting and lottery firms will have to comply with the new rules by May 30.

The most affected celebrities include Footballer Mariga, celebrated volleyball queen, Janet Wanja, media personalities, Joey Muthengi and Carol Radull.

The above celebrities are thought to enjoy multi-million endorsement deals from betting companies.
