Friday May 31, 2019-A court in Kiambu on Thursday confirmed that Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has a case to answer in an ongoing corruption probe against him.
Waititu, who was arrested by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) last week grilled and later released, has been on the spot over the alleged illegal award of tenders worth Sh580 million to companies associated with his wife Susan Ndung’u and his daughter Monica Njeri.
During the court ruling, the court through a written statement confirmed the involvement of the Governor and his family members, among then his beloved daughter, Monica Njeri, in misappropriation of public funds.
The investigation carried out by the EACC detectives further revealed that the money was received through Saika Two Estate Developers, Bienvenue Delta Hotel, and Connex Logistics which are all associated with Waititu’s family.
“An analysis of evidence reveals the Governor received kickbacks through his bank accounts and accounts of companies associated with him and his family members for contracts awarded by the county Government,” a court affidavit read by Kiambu Principal Chief Magistrate confirmed.
Governor Waititu has, however, accused his political rivals of being behind his woes.
According to him, the corruption allegations facing him are as a result of his staunch support for Deputy President William Ruto and his 2022 presidential bid.
