Shock as CS MATIANG’I changes tune! Says registering for Huduma Namba NOT mandatory and necessary-You can have it or not; it doesn’t matter

Thursday April 11, 2019-It appears that Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang'i, has changed tune on the ongoing Huduma Namba registration exercise.

In a statement, Matiang’i stated that registering for Huduma Namba is not mandatory despite earlier indications that it was crucial for every Kenyan in order to access Government services.

He clarified that the exercise is voluntary and a noble responsibility for all citizens to support the Government.

"Fred Matiang'i has maintained the ongoing mass biometric registration is not mandatory but a noble responsibility for all Kenyans to support the Government streamline service delivery," said the CS in a Tweet by the Interior Ministry.

Civil rights groups over the manner in which the government was compelling Kenyans to register for the number and even filed a case seeking to stop the process on grounds that it lacked proper legislation on data protection.
