Tuesday April 23, 2019-Kericho Senator, Aaron Cheruiyot, has come out strongly to defend Deputy President William Ruto against accusations of hate speech following his recent thin veiled attack on NASA leader Raila Odinga and Luos.
Addressing a public forum over the weekend, the DP said the political behaviour of some leaders, especially Raila Odinga and his Luos, were well known and there was no need to entertain them in Government.
"These people who are giving us so many stories, we know them and they are well known for destroying. If they are not breaking political parties, then they are destroying houses, if not houses they are uprooting railways, and if not railways then they are splitting friends, why should we entertain them?" the DP posed.
However, speaking to NTV, Cheruiyot said Ruto's sentiments were taken out of context and exaggerated to taint his image as spreading hate among communities in the country.
Cheruiyot said the sentiments were targeted at a specific person and it was unfair for the leaders from the Luo community to make it look like it was meant for the entire tribe.
"The Deputy President's remarks were not targeted at the whole Luo community. Where in that particular clip does the Deputy President particularly refer to Luos? He never said anything of the sort," said Cheruiyot.
