Thursday April 11,2019-A section of leaders from Wajir county have dismissed claims by Jubilee Party Secretary general , Raphael Tuju that President Uhuru Kenyatta and National Super Alliance(NASA) leader , Raila Odinga, negotiated to have ODM candidate Yusuf Elmi withdraw from Wajir West by –elections.
According to Tuju, Uhuru and Raila spoke to have Elmi step down for Jubilee Party candidate, Ahmed Kolosh.
But in a statement on Wednesday evening, Elmi said Uhuru and Raila were never consulted for him to step down for Kolosh.
He said his decision followed intervention by the Degodia clan which feared his candidature would create divisions in the community.
"I have today (Tuesday) withdrawn from the Wajir West by-election following days of negotiations within our community. ODM had nothing to do with it,” Elmi said.
Elmi also stated that he held talks with Deputy President William Ruto who encouraged him to quit the race for Wajir West by election and support Kolosh.
A section of leaders in Jubilee have accused Tuju of being used by Raila Odinga to cause confusion in the party.
