How Daring thugs planned and executed the Sh11 Million heist from Barclays Bank ATMs in Nairobi.

Sunday, April 21, 2019- Details have emerged on how daring thugs planned and made away with a reported Sh 11 million from four separate Barclays bank ATMs in Nairobi on Saturday night.

Initial investigations indicate that the thugs had done their homework well as most ATMs did not have a working surveillance camera.

For instance, the Mutindwa ATM where over Sh 6 million was stolen, the CCTV camera was not working.

In South B, the robbers smeared the CCTV camera with petroleum jelly which blurred footage.

They also struck at the ATM located at KNH where they made away with Sh4 million, and South B machine bringing the total figure to more than 11 Million shillings.

A statement from the bank read: ““We can confirm that there has been theft at 4 of our ATMs in Nairobi. We are working with the investigative authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice,”

Recently, detectives raided a Barclays branch in Nairobi and recovered Sh2 Billion in fake dollars from a client’s safe.

According to reports Kenyan banks lose Sh 15-16 million annually through fraud.

This is shift from the days of yore where bank robbers used to use guns and crude weapons to force vaults open.
