Friday, April 26, 2019 - City lawyer Assa Nyakundi was arraigned in Kiambu law courts on Friday and charged with manslaughter for accidentally killing his son, Joseph Nyakundi.

The renowned criminal lawyer shot his 29-year old son, Joseph Nyakundi, on March 17th near his Muthaiga home.

He then rushed him to Aga Khan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The two were headed home at around 1am from International Christian Center (ICC) Church along Mombasa Road.

Mr. Nyakundi claimed that his gun accidentally went off while inside the car but investigations suggest the shot was fired from outside the car.

The manslaughter charge attracts a lesser penalty than murder which would have seen him rot in jail for the rest of his life.

Speaking to the media recently, Mr. Nyakundi said that he’s not afraid of going to jail because he’s has lost everything.

I have never been to a police cell, but if they take me to prison, it will not be worse than losing my son in the way it happened. There is nothing more to lose at this point. I have lost everything,”

Both of us were arsenal fans and I was trying to teach him some golf. We were preparing to take him abroad to further his studies,”

He added:

If it turns out there will be a trial, I will defend myself and my lawyers will do their bit because it was an accident

  1. Where is justice for the young man whose young life was cut short without explanation. This is miscarriage of justice from the word go. I'll not be surprised if Nyakundi is acquitted. This is Kenya for you.
