Anti-Corruption Magistrate DOUGLAS OGOTI reveals why he slapped Samburu Governor with Sh 100 million cash bail – This man should replace useless MARAGA

Thursday April 4, 2019-Anti-Corruption Magistrate, Douglas Ogoti, has revealed the reason why he slapped Samburu Governor, Moses Lenolkulal, with a cash bail of Sh 100 million or a bond of Sh 150 million when he appeared before him on Tuesday.

The governor was arrested on Tuesday morning for stealing Sh 86.4 million from his county.

However, High Court Judge ,Mumbi Ngugi, reduced the governor’s cash bail from Sh 100 million to Sh 10 million saying the magistrate’s bail was excessive.

However in his defence, Ogoti said corruption equals to murder and nobody should have sympathy with corrupt suspects.

“Corruption is equal to murder, maybe worse," Ogoti said.

Given another chance, Ogoti, who is an SDA Church elder, said he would still render the same terms for release.

“My terms were fair, I did not deny bail. Consider the seriousness of the offence on the face of it,” Ogoti told a local daily.
The Magistrate also explained how corruption wrecks a society, leaving beggars and hopeless people everywhere.

“A corrupt individual takes everything for himself and in the process leaves others to die. A murderer will kill only one person but someone who steals from a hospital causes much trouble. People will lack basic needs,’ he said.
