Friday March 15, 2018-On Tuesday President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated ,Hilary Mutyambai, as the next Inspector General of Police following the end of Joseph Boinnet's tenure.

Until his appointment, Mutyambai was the deputy director of Counter-Terrorism Coordination at National Intelligence Service (NIS).

Mutyambai who comes from Mwala, Machakos County, also served as Kenya’s political attaché in Uganda from 2000 to 2004.

Uhuru is said to have made the appointment with the consultation with National Super Alliance(NASA) leader, Raila Odinga and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.

Some Kalenjin leaders led by Deputy President William Ruto tried to oppose the nomination of Mutyambai as IG saying Boinett‘s replacement must come from Kalenjin community but the President maintained time for tribe appointment are gone.

"He told them that time for tribal nomination are long gone  and he will be appointing  state officers based on their qualification ,” a senior State House officer stated.

The officer, who demanded a condition of anonymity also said Uhuru refused to consult Ruto on Mutyambai‘s nomination.
