Thursday March 7, 2019 - President Uhuru Kenyatta is reportedly angry with Treasury Cabinet Secretary, Henry Rotich, over the loss of Sh 21 billion meant for the construction of Arror and Kamwerer dams in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Over the last 3 days, Rotich has been grilled by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) wwith regard to the loss and he will soon be arraigned in court over the scandal that has left Jubilee Government leaders in panic.
Sources at CID said Rotich will be charged with conspiring to steal billions with a foreign company and also failing to safeguard taxpayers’ money as enshrined in the constitution.
Following Rotich’s problems, Uhuru is keen on replacing him with a cleaner man who has good knowledge on Treasury and Financial matters.
According to sources, Uhuru has already contacted Kenya’s Ambassador to Washington, Njeru Githae, and he may appoint him CS in the coming days.
Uhuru believes Githae will play a major role in giving him a good legacy by sanitizing the mess that has been created by Rotich.
Githae had earlier served as the Finance Minister during the grand Coalition Government headed by former President Mwai Kibaki and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
He was appointed to replace Uhuru in the finance docket by Kibaki.
The move has not gone down well with Deputy President William Ruto who is reportedly furious on grounds that a Mt Kenya resident will replace Rotich for the position against the notion that it was a reserve of Kalenjins.
