Monday February 11, 2019 - A group of Mt Kenya political leaders has said that the region has not endorsed anybody for the Presidency in 2022.

Speaking in an interview on Kameme FM on Monday morning, the chairman of the group, Dennis Waweru, said Mt Kenya region will endorse the right candidate when the right time comes and warned leaders against early campaigns.

Waweru, who is also the former Dagoretti South MP, said it is paramount for local leaders to support President Uhuru Kenyatta to accomplish his developmental goals before the end of his term.

On the question of whether the region will support Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential bid in 2022, Waweru said nobody promised Ruto anything and he should be ready to face the electorate like all other presidential candidates in 2022.

“We will interview all candidates including NASA leader, Raila Odinga, and we will chose the best leader to succeed Uhuru,” Waweru said.

The former lawmaker further recommended the inclusion of the Prime Minister’s seat in the Constitution during the referendum.

“Let the question be incorporated in the referendum and Kenyans will decide what they want,” he said.
