Kikuyu Community elders want a public holiday to commemorate UHURU-RAILA handshake – God has blessed us with peace and tranquility.

Friday January 11, 2019-A section of Kikuyu community elders now want March 9 to be declared a public holiday to commemorate the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

In a statement to the press on Friday, the elders led by Martin Kinyanjui alias Mutarara wants the handshake to go down in history as the day Kenyans were united.

“God has answered our prayers through the March 9, 2018 handshake between the President and former Prime Minister, the tension and uncertainty that existed came to an end,” Kinyanjui said.

“We’ll even go further asking that the ninth day of March be declared a public holiday. The unity day is when all of us should invade streets with festivities and celebrate this famous historic day," Kinyanjui added.

Kinyanjui, who is a close friend of the president, also asked politicians to stop premature campaigns ahead of the 2022 presidential elections.
