The Two-Third Gender Bill failed on purpose! See the plot male MPs have hatched to block women from Parliament-UHURU should have known better

Friday November 30, 2018-After the voting on the much awaited Two-Third Gender Bill failed to effect on Wednesday due to lack of quorum, it has now emerged that Male MPs have hatched a new plot to block women nomination to the August House.

According to sources, some MPs are scheming to amend the Constitution to block elective positions from being subjected to comply with the Two-Thirds Gender principle.

Sources said the legislators have proposed to change Article 81 of the Constitution, which requires that “not more than two-thirds of members of elective public bodies shall be of the same gender.”

They want only appointive positions subjected to the two-thirds-gender principle.

This means the MPs wants nomination of women to Senate, National Assembly and County Assemblies abolished to their disadvantage.

According to Ainabkoi MP, William Chepkut, it is necessary to amend Section 81 so elective positions are exempted from the gender rule.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Turkana South MP, James Lomenen, who is leading the scheme to do away with the gender rule, saying the Two-Third Gender Bill flopped because it was impractical.

“The bill was an attempt to disenfranchise Kenyans by imposing leaders on them through the back door.”

“The Constitution envisages a situation where Kenyans must be accorded an opportunity to decide their representatives,” said Lomenen.
