NHIF CEO STANLEY MWANGI and finance director, JOSEPH MBUVI arrested – They have stolen Sh 1.5 billion

Saturday November 24, 2018-Detectives from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday arrested National Hospital Insurance Fund(NHIF) CEO, Stanley Mwangi and Financial director, Joseph Mbuvi over misappropriation of Sh 1.5 billion.

Mwangi is accused of failure to provide documents required in a Sh 1.5 billion corruption case at the agency.

The CEO was grilled by detective at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road for hours before being locked up at Muthaiga police station. 

He will be charged with obstruction of justice on Monday.

 For almost a month, detectives have been combing documents at NHIF on allegations of financial misappropriation with regard to a digital payment system.

DCI boss George Kinoti confirmed the arrest of the two. 

“They have been arrested and are being questioned over claims of graft at the insurance agency amounting to more than Sh1 billion,” Kinoti said.
