Wednesday November 28, 2018 - Elgeyo Marakwet Senator, Kipchumba Murkomen, and Cherangany MP, Joshua Kuttuny, traded barbs on national television yesterday over maize scandals that have dogged the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).

Trouble began when Kuttuny boldly said Deputy President William Ruto needed to come out clear on the multi-billion maize scandal at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).

He alleged that Koilel Limited, a company affiliated to Ruto, was among suspect entities which supplied maize to the Strategic Food Reserve (SFR) stores.

However, Murkomen, a diehard supporter and political protégé of Ruto, took offence with Kuttuny’s remarks, telling the legislator to respect the country's second in command as he (Ruto) had literally raised him from the ashes and made him who he was.

"You must respect William Ruto.”

“He picked you from the bush selling charcoal, made you a Member of Parliament," Murkomen said.

But in a quick rejoinder, Kutuny told Murkomen to respect him too by virtue of having bought the Senator his first car, a Toyota Harrier, which he used for his first political campaign as the Elgeyo Marakwet leader.

"You should not forget I picked you from the streets also.”

“I bought you the first car for your campaigns and even used to send you money every weekend through my wife," Kutuny said.

  1. Do we need such leaders really? I mean seriously? Kuttuny in Kale means kneel, he needs to do just that. Murkomen on the other hand i have no idea, i leave it to Marakwets to tell us. I can hazard a guess though, that it is actually supposed to be Murkumin meaning the one that spoils the brew. These two needs to do away with those weird names. Puh!
