Any MP or anyone opposing the Third Gender Bill is like a British colonialist and does not deserve to be in this country - RUTO sends a warning

Tuesday November 27, 2018 - Deputy President William Ruto has criticized MPs opposed to the Gender Bill, likening them to British colonialists who were chased away by Kenyans almost six decades ago.

Speaking during a funds drive in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua, Ruto said just like British colonialists who (during the fight for independence) thought Kenyans were not ready for self-rule, so are the opposers of the Gender Bill who think women cannot be good leaders.

“If we don’t respect the Constitution, and ensure that there is parity and equality between genders in Kenya then wale watu wanasema ati wanawake hawapaswi kupatiwa nafasi ya uongozi kwasababu wako na sijui upungufu, hawana tofauti na wakoloni,” Ruto said.

The DP urged Jubilee MPs to support the Bill saying it will give a chance for more women to lead.

“We have seen a section of our leaders opposing the Bill as if they do not have women at home…We cannot leave others behind while engaging in the development discourse of our country,” he said.
