You must lower the price of Unga to Sh75 - UHURU tells millers as he warns them of dire consequences if any is found to have hiked their prices

Saturday October 6, 2018 - President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned millers of dire consequences should they fail to reduce the price of Unga as directed by the Ministry of Agriculture last week.

Speaking at Uhuru Market in Nairobi during the annual Nairobi clean-up on Saturday, Uhuru said millers should lower their prices to reflect the significant reduction in the price of maize in the country.

The Head of State said it is wrong for companies to charge Kenyans exorbitant prices which are not justified.

“I want to tell millers that we will take action against them because that is exploitation,” Uhuru said.

Last week, Uhuru through Agriculture Cabinet Secretary, Mwangi Kiunjuri, directed maize millers to reduce the price of the 2kg pack of Unga to Sh75.

However, many millers are yet to reduce the price despite the Head of State’s directive.
