Thursday
October 11, 2018-Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria has beaten
his Nairobi counterpart, Mike Sonko, in the fight over the control of
Ndakaini water.
This is after an agreement was reached
on developing a benefit-sharing mechanism which gives Muranga a say in the
Ndakaini waters.
The
Tuesday meeting which was led by Council of Governors chairperson of the water
committee, Meru Governor Kiraitu
Murungi, resolved that the people of Murang’a should
profit from water sourced from the county and consumed in Nairobi.
The
meeting was also attended by Cabinet Secretaries Eugene Wamalwa (Devolution)
and Simon Chelugui (Water).
"The Ministry
of Water and Sanitation will develop a benefit-sharing mechanism to ensure
residents of Murang’a County benefit from water resources in their own
backyard.”
"I’m happy
that we were able to resolve these outstanding water disputes," the Meru
Governor stated.
This now brings to
rest the fierce battle between Sonko and Wa Iria who have been battling for a
share of Ndakaini waters.
