Wednesday October
24, 2018-Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has
announced plans to increase daily parking fees within the Central Business
District (CBD) from the current Sh300 to Sh 400.
This is in total contrast to what the Governor pledged during his campaigns and in
his manifesto, where he not only pledged to offer more parking slots, but also
reduce parking fee to Sh 150 should he get elected.
Venting on social media platforms a day
after City Hall made the announcement, Kenyans wondered why the County Government
was unable to address issues of corruption, poor systems of tax collection and
accounts which often lead to losses of revenues at source.
They chided Sonko's glowing manifesto
which focused much on improving well being of his voters thus making Nairobi a
small heaven for motorists.
"The same Sonko that came out guns
blazing when his predecessor increased the parking fees to Sh300?”
“The same Sonko who, during the
campaigns, promised to lower the parking fees to Sh150?" posed one Kefa
Nyaboga.
