Tuesday October 16, 2018-The National Team, Harambee Stars, is yet to receive Deputy President William Ruto's Ksh50 million that he promised even after beating Ethiopia 3-0 over the weekend.
However, Ruto has defended himself for non-payment of the money, saying he was waiting for Kenya to qualify for 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
He noted that he did not say that he will give Harambee Stars the money when they beat Ethiopia but only if they qualify for AFCON and that they are yet to qualify.
The DP explained that he will wait for the official communication about the team’s qualification from Confederation of African Football (CAF), through the Federation of Kenyan Football (FKF) President, Nick Mwendwa.
“Mimi nangojea huyu prezo aniambie we have qualified, mimi nita deliver (I am waiting for the President to confirm that we have qualified then I will pay),” explained Ruto.
Kenya is now waiting for FiFA to give its verdict on Sierra Leone following the suspension of its Football Association (SLFA) by FIFA due to the Government’s interference in the football affairs.
